NAJAH ATTIG
Dr. Najah Attig is Canada Research Chair in Finance and Corporate Governance and Associate Professor of finance at Saint Mary’s University. Dr. Attig is an internationally recognized scholar and leading experts conducting research on important issues with a strong focus, primarily on linkages between corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, shareholder value creation, corporate policies and financing frictions. Dr. Attig has also studied extensively the interaction between family ownership and control and firms’ governance and performance. He has produced an impressive stream of peer-reviewed articles with relevant practical implications in improving corporate governance practices, corporate capacity and institutional environment in today’s complex and competitive economy. His quality research is at the forefront of emerging research fields, has been recognized by various Best Paper Awards at scholarly conferences, and was awarded –two times- the Barclays Global Investors Canada Research Award and the Toronto CFA Society Best Paper Award for Original Research on Canadian Capital Markets. Despite being voluminous in producing many research papers, Dr. Attig is able to maintain the extent of creativity and innovation in his award-winning research demanded by major academic journals. For instance, his scholarly achievement is evidenced by his many publications in Financial-Times (FT) list journals, including the Journal of Business Ethics, the leading journal in business ethics and the Contemporary Accounting Research, an elite accounting and in high-quality finance journals such as the Journal of Banking and Finance, Financial Management, and the Journal of Corporate Finance. Dr. Attig has recently served as member (panel one) and vice-chair (full panel) of the international adjudication committee for the Open Research Area (ORA), which is based on an agreement between the national research agencies France, Germany, UK and Canada. He also served as the chair of the Business Adjudication Committee of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) in 2016 and 2017, with multi-million dollar research budget envelopes. Dr. Attig holds a Ph.D. in Finance from Laval University (Quebec) and is fluent in English and French
